The UW Madison Soil and Forage Analysis Laboratory is certified for routine soil analysis and receiving soil, forage, manure, plant and lime samples. Sample kits, submission forms, brochures, and mailing envelopes are available in the Ashland County office during office hours, but samples will need to be shipped to their address in Madison:
Soil and Forage Analysis Lab

Madison, WI 53705
You can reach the Soil and Forage Analysis office by phone at 608-262-4364.
For clients in Central and Northern Wisconsin who would like to continue to drop samples off at Marshfield, the receiving room of the Marshfield location will serve as a drop off point. While samples may still be received at Marshfield they will be transported to Madison for testing. Shipping samples to Madison is preferred for mailed samples.
Water Samples
The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) is the state’s public, environmental and occupational health laboratory. Through analytical services, research and development, public health programs, laboratory proficiency testing, and training and education of students and professionals, the WSLH’s work is vital to Wisconsin’s and the nation’s public and environmental health. Sample kits, submission forms, and brochures are available in the Ashland County office during office hours, but samples will need to be shipped to their address in Madison:
WI State Lab of Hygiene
2601 Agriculture Drive
Madison, WI 53705
Because some drinking water samples must be tested within a short time period after sampling, do NOT ship samples to WSLH on Fridays for Saturday delivery. The WSLH building is not open to the general public on weekends and holidays and staff may not be available to process your samples. Even with overnight delivery, samples may not be received or processed to meet the time limit requirement and another sample will need to be taken and shipped.
